SIGN-AIR Project Technical Meeting : Advancing Multimodal Connectivity and Disruption Management

Day 1: Connectivity

  • How can we measure connectivity between transport stakeholders at hub airports?
  • Refining synchronization metrics to help Transport Service Providers (TSPs) improve passenger flow,
  • Visualizing connectivity insights on the SIGN-AIR platform.

Day 2: Disruption Management

ENAC at Seas to Skies Conference 2024: Greening Ports and Airports

Day 1 featured the expert roundtable “Common Drivers and Barriers for Greener Mobility and Digitisation”, with insights from Brussels Airport (Elke Bossaert, Strategic Accessibility Manager), ENAC (Georges Mykoniatis, Head of Research Business Development),  CINEA (Marcel Rommerts, Head of Unit Horizon Europe Transport), and the Port of Rotterdam (Oscar van Veen, Director of Innovation), highlighting shared challenges and opportunities in driving sustainable mobility.

Key Themes:

ASTAIR project (SESAR) – Intermediate Review

Led by ENAC, ASTAIR focuses on developing tools for fully automated ground operations supervision. The project’s goal is to develop an advanced HMI prototype and support algorithms capable of autonomously managing ground vehicle movements. These solutions allow supervisors to fine-tune operations, ensuring adaptability to real-time events. The meeting provided an overview of the project’s objectives, updates on progress of the operations, and plans for next steps.

PANTHEON Project: Urban Digital Twins to Enhance Disaster Resilience

Led by TWI Hellas, the project aims to establish an AI-powered, community-based ecosystem to improve disaster risk management and situational awareness. PANTHEON leverages advanced digital twin technology to support policymakers and stakeholders in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from natural disasters.

Andreas Guitart, Postdoctoral Researcher at ENAC and Finalist for the SESAR Young Scientist Award 2024

Having earned his PhD in December 2023 titled “Development of Trajectory Generation Algorithms to Improve Air Transport Safety,” Andreas has already contributed to over 20 studies focused on aircraft emergency trajectory generation, trajectory optimization, tackling issues like rapid response, contrail reduction, and increased safety in air traffic management.

ENAC in Warsaw for the 5th Module of the European University of Air Transport

The European Air Transport University – UTA - is a shared long-term objective in which the firm determination of the various partners is to develop a truly European high-level vocational training programme.

Because UTA's ambition is to bring together the various European aviation players through the listeners and speakers, to promote mutual understanding and create greater synergy within the European air transport and aircraft manufacturing ecosystem. This is why we are delighted and honoured that the European Commission is supporting this course.
