ENAC still improve its teaching tools by modernizingits ATC rotundas, hyper realistic control tower simulation rooms equipped with 360° immersive projection.
What’s new and what improvements?
- Replacement of the former lamp projectors with latest-generation laser technology
- Reduction of the number of projectors by a third: two projectors needed for 120° instead of three and therefore reduction of the maintenance burden and its cost
- Increase in resolution from 2K to 4K, guaranteeing an even more realistic simulation that allows better visibility of distant traffic and obstacles
A technological challenge successfully met
One of the major challenges of this upgrade was to adapt the image of the new projectors to a circular surface. This project required precise calibration and advanced colour adjustment, a first for this type of equipment on such a surface.
This first phase involved the complete renovation of the first rotunda. Work on the second will start in June so that students can enjoy a fully modernised facilities.
Many thanks to the DSNA/DTI and Immersion for their technical expertise and support in this transformation, and of course to the pedagogical and technical teams of the ATM department.
A look back at the key stages of the project:
- Dismantling and installing the new projectors
- Adjustment of the image on a circular support, with high-precision calibration and colour adjustment
- Final results with a high level of satisfaction
Thanks to these advances, ENAC student air traffic controllers and DSNA trainees benefit from an increasingly immersive and high-performance training environment, as close as possible to the realities of air traffic control.
