Opérations de Routes Vertes avec ATMACA-SESAR

On February 20-21, ENAC representatives attended the ATMACA-SESAR Project Meeting and Project Management Board (PMB) at Turkish Airlines Headquarters in Istanbul. The event provided an opportunity to present the concept details and expected benefits to the SESAR Joint Undertaking representatives.

ENAC’s role in ATMACA

ENAC is researching ATMACA applications for Green Route Operations. The new ATMACA communication protocol, with its Air-to-Ground instant text messaging capability, would enable aircraft to share real-time weather information (wind and temperature) with ground units.

Accurate real-time weather data will enhance:

  • Trajectory Prediction
  • Trajectory Optimization for a given Flight Level

This would result in improved traffic flow management, reduced holdings (and consequently lower fuel consumption), as well as enhanced trajectory efficiency.

About ATMACA

Led by Eskişehir Technical University, the exploratory research project aims to improve air-ground communication, which is crucial for the end-to-end air traffic management concept. It requires seamless integration of current, future, and emerging communication networks.

These solutions represent a significant step toward a more efficient, flexible, and resilient ATM system.
